UP COMING: Harvest Festival

History

Approximately 25 years ago, people living in the western region of Coimbatore district had to travel around 25 kilometers to attend worship and praise the Lord.
Later, in the year 2004, a few people decided to organize worship services in a house. Around 25 families gathered and discussed, deciding to conduct worship in a home in Alandurai. Following this decision, it was finalized that worship services would be held every Sunday at 5:00 PM at the residence of Mr. Gnanaprakasam.

Starting from January 30, 2005, worship services and love feasts were conducted on the upper floor of the house. Around 100 people participated in these early gatherings. Thereafter, every week, pastors from CSI Christ Church, Trichy Road, came and led the worship services at 5:00 PM.

As the number of attendees increased, the need for owning a dedicated place for worship was strongly felt. After discussions with the CSI Christ Church, Trichy Road, it was decided to purchase land near Alandurai. Eventually, 5.5 acres of land was identified in Mathuvarayapuram village, valued at Rs. 33 lakhs.

From this land, 48 cents were allotted specifically for the CSI Church. On May 18, 2005, through Coimbatore CSI Bishop Rt. Rev. Manickam Durai, registration for this 48 cents of land was completed. With the support of the CSI Christ Church, Trichy Road, a temporary Church building was planned and constructed in an area of 1,200 square feet.

On January 29, 2006, the temporary Church was consecrated by Rt. Rev. Manickam Durai, Bishop, Coimbatore Diocese and on the same day, the foundation stone was laid for constructing a permanent Church building.

Rev. Prabhu Chandramohan, Rev. Swamy Kan, Rev. Jacob Ravikumar, and Rev. Vijayan conducted services at 8:30 AM regularly. Following this, for the next three years, Rev. Thangasamy, a retired pastor, took the ministry to the next level.

In June 2008, through the Diocese, Rev. Christopher Rajendran was appointed as the first pastor of the Church, and began his ministry here. At this time, English worship services were also introduced for the first time.

From June 2009, Rev. Prabhu Chandramohan took over the ministry. On March 31, 2010, government approval was obtained to build a permanent CSI Church, and on July 4, 2010, under the leadership of Dr. Prince Arulraj, a church construction committee was formed.

On August 3, 2011, funds were disbursed, and the church construction officially began. In exactly 2.5 years (or 908 days), with an expenditure of approximately 2.5 crore rupees, the church construction was completed.

On January 26, 2014, at 5:00 PM, the church was consecrated by Rt. Rev. Timothy Ravinder, the sixth Bishop of the Coimbatore Diocese. Around 4,500 people participated in the ceremony, and united meals were served to all attendees.
Since then, from 2014 to the present, the church anniversary is celebrated every year on January 26, along with the Asanam Festival. Currently, around 370 families gather regularly to worship the Lord at the church. As part of the church’s mission outreach, a branch church has been built in Thondamuthur, and efforts are ongoing to obtain government approval.

Please continue to pray for this cause. May God bless us all abundantly.
